CITY CENTERED: A Festival of Locative Media and Urban Community
Topographical Shifts participated in a symposium and exhibition, ‘City Centered’, sponsored by KQED, city of San Francisco and local non-profit art organization GAFFTA. Topographical Shifts work focused on research and urban mapping within the economically disadvantaged area of the Tenderloin in San Francisco. Their project ‘Beyond Boundaries’ focused on collaborating with local communities members to start to recognize how the diverse and complex community of the Tenderloin is thriving in positive ways. Typically this area in San Francisco is known for high crime and homelessness, TS examined the positive opportunities from a research perspective that could be utilized in providing opportunities for future design initiatives within this district of San Francisco. Part of the incentive for the city centered project was the idea of infusing art and culture within the district of Tenderloin as a method of revitalizing this neighborhood. |
